What is the CDCP?

Launched in December 2023, the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) is a government program designed to provide dental coverage for Canadians without private dental insurance who have an adjusted family net income under $90,000 per year. This plan aims to reduce financial barriers for oral health care and is expected to assist up to 9 million Canadians.

The CDCP includes a broad range of dental services — from routine cleanings and exams to dentures and surgical procedures like extractions.

At Saberton, many of these services are available. If you want to know which treatments are covered or what you might need, book a free consultation with us here.

We also collaborate with local dentists to make sure you receive comprehensive care, even if a specific service isn’t offered directly by us.

Note: Some procedures require prior approval based on your oral health and medical history.

The CDCP reimburses a portion of your dental costs based on set plan rates and your household’s adjusted net income. You might have to cover some costs yourself, depending on your income or if fees exceed CDCP rates.

Saberton is a registered CDCP provider and can submit your claims electronically to Sun Life, the plan administrator. Co-payments (when applicable) are paid by the patient.

Adjusted Family Net Income CDCP Coverage (%) Your Co-Payment (%)
Less than $70,000 100% 0%
$70,000 to $79,999 60% 40%
$80,000 to $89,999 40% 60%

Note: Additional charges may apply if provider fees exceed CDCP rates.

To qualify, you must:

  • Have an adjusted family net income below $90,000 (after certain deductions).
  • Have no private dental insurance coverage. Coverage through federal/provincial government programs like ODSP is allowed.
  • Be a Canadian resident and have filed a tax return in the previous year.

Eligibility is reviewed annually. Most eligible applicants receive an invitation letter, but you can apply without one.

Your tax forms (T4 and T4A) will include information about any dental coverage you or your family had, which helps determine eligibility.

Apply online through Service Canada by visiting the official government website here.
